These two idolatrous empires were the places of exile for the Jews of the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judea respectively. Each had a distinct approach to dealing with the Jewish people, and by understanding their relationship to the Jews and their relationship to each other, we learn about one of the most important phases of Jewish history.
