The Talmudic principle that custom supersedes Torah Law, "minhag mevattel halacha," applies in a surprising number of cases. Covering such diverse areas as marriage, kashrus, and money matters, Rabbi Wein gives us a smattering of case histories in which this principle was used, and in a few instances, misused.
