The Jewish presence in Paris dates back as far as the 6th century, but its history is a long pattern of expulsions and returns. Rabbi Wein fills in the details of this long history, taking us through the Crusades of the Middle Ages to the assimilationist policies of Napoleon. But most miraculous of all is the current repetition of the pattern - the revival of the Parisian Jewish community in spite of the Holocaust.
