At the beginning of this parsha, Moshe commands the Jewish people to appoint a king to rule once they enter the land of Israel. He also instructs the people on how to behave towards their enemies when they wish to engage them in war. Rabbi Yechezkel Lipshitz in his commentary draws a parallel between these two commands.
