Purim: A Historical Perspective

As we say in the Passover Haggadah, “In every generation there are those that rise up against us and try to destroy us”. The same dictate can be applied to the main characters in the Purim story. Throughout the ages of Jewish History one can find a heroic figure that can be viewed as a Mordechai and in contrast, there have been no shortage of enemies that seek to destroy the Jewish People and play the role of Haman. In this lecture, Rabbi Wein highlights individuals who stood up for the rights of the Jewish people in the face of those who wished to do harm.
