Shavuos is a holiday of history- of the granting of the Torah at Sinai and of the Land of Israel in all of its natural radiance. The Haftorot for Shavuos describe God’s majesty and his awesome greatness. They clearly define the Creator of us all, vis-à-vis his creatures and our relationship to that unfathomable power that is the source of all life in our universe. The last lecture in this series explains why the Haftorot were instituted in Jewish life and liturgy – and why they are so vital to an understanding of Judaism and Jewish life.
