During the month of Elul and leading into the 10 Days of Repentance, Jews have the custom to increase charitable giving in conjunction with the adage that ‘Tzedakkah Tatzil M’Movet’ – Charity saves from Death’. What exactly is charity? Besides for giving monetarily to others, what exactly are we striving for when providing for others either in a monetary manner or just giving of one’s self.
