Sir Moses Montefiore is known as the great Jewish diplomat of the 19th century, but he had an equal partner in the Frenchman, Adolphe Cremieux. Born Yitzchak Moshe to an assimilated, pro-revolutionary family, he was one of those Jews who, without the benefit of much Torah education, was nevertheless devoted to our people. Rabbi Wein paints the portrait of this exceptional man who stood against the tide and fought anti-Semitism.
