The Children of Jacob: An Eternal Cycle

For Parshas Vayishlach, Sephardim read from the prophet Hosea, but clearly his message speaks to all Jews. In his depictions the split between the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judea, we see a gaping chasm between believers and non-believers, a circumstance very similar to the Jewish world of today. While the prophet rebukes the non-believers for their sin of faithlessness, the believers are likewise taken to task for self-righteousness and overconfidence. But regardless of the offense, the solution is the same: cling to God and He will forgive.
